The Faculty\u2019s Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) Forum\u00a0recently held its second meeting of the academic year.<\/p>\n

The Forum plays an essential role in driving forward the\u00a0Faculty\u2019s PPIE Action Plan, an integral part of our\u00a0Social Responsibility (SR) strategy<\/a>. It includes representation from Public Contributors (PC), Schools, Divisions (staff and students) and key external stakeholders and is Co-Chaired by Dr Stephanie Snow, Academic Lead for Community Engagement and Involvement and Kay Gallacher, PC.<\/p>\n

Guest speaker Dr Robina Shah, Director of the\u00a0Doubleday Centre for Patient Experience<\/a>\u00a0discussed the\u00a0Centre<\/a>\u00a0which was established by the\u00a0Edwin Doubleday Fund<\/a>\u00a0in 2015 as the first centre of its kind in England. It works to involve members of the public (Medical Education Partners) in the medical training of our future doctors. It believes that the voices of patients\/public should be valued in medical training, as it is the public who directly benefit from medical education when using health and care services. Her talk highlighted the journey of the Centre since it was established, to current projects including\u00a0#TheSmileBehindTheMaskCampaign<\/a>. Following the talk, members discussed upcoming resources for PC. This included a training programme for PC featuring internal and external training courses and a PC version of the fees and payments guidance document which details key information including how PC will receive payments. These resources will be available shortly.<\/p>\n

Members also heard updates from\u00a0Health Innovation Manchester<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Vocal<\/a>\u00a0representatives.\u00a0<\/p>\n
