Support the testing of a new Quality Mark for Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE)<\/strong><\/p>\n

We all want an open, inclusive and accessible research culture. There are many ways that this can be achieved, and below is one such example.<\/p>\n

Kay Gallacher, public contributor, and co-chair of the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health’s (FBMH) PPIE Forum<\/a>, first came up with the idea of creating a tool to help self-assess and ultimately improve the quality of PPIE in research projects. This is important in supporting open, inclusive and accessible research.\u00a0<\/p>\n

So the PPIE Forum<\/a>, a group comprised of public contributors, staff and students, embarked on creating what is now known as the \u2018PPIE Quality Mark<\/a>\u2019. 10 criteria were chosen:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

We now want to find out if using this Quality Mark as a self-assessment tool really does improve PPIE in practice. We also want to test the suitability of the 10 criteria, and the tool\u2019s usability over a range of several types of research and, further down the line, teaching projects. For this,\u00a0we have been awarded a part-time Open Research Fellowship<\/a>, funded by Research England to undertake this work, through The University of Manchester.<\/p>\n
