Dr. Ahmadreza Djalali, a highly respected physician, teacher, scientist and humanitarian was arrested on April 25 and detained in Evin Prison, Iran and has been informed that his punishment will be execution.

Issues of “fake news” seem to dominate the headlines these days. Of course, these debates have been on-going for centuries and connect with academic freedom. This is the freedom of academics to research and collaborate free from persecution and fear of persecution. HCRI staff have collaborated on projects on which Dr Ahmadrez Djalali has been involved, which is why we are so appalled to learn that he has been sentenced to death.

You can read more about Dr Djalali and the campaign to free him at www.facebook.com/freeahmadreza/.

You can petition for his release by downloading these letters, and submitting them to:

Amnesty International has produced a detailed report about the situation.

We encourage you to share this information as widely as possible across your networks.
