What did you study at college?"Grace"

I studied both A-levels and BTECs in college the A-level was theology and philosophy and the BTEC was double ICT.

Why did you choose International Disaster Management and Humanitarian Response?

From a young age, I have been interested in helping others and how religion impacts individuals daily lives. Before applying to the course I was interested in studying a theology and philosophy degree, as that is what I had done at college. However, I attended a talk on HCRI and was completely hooked afterwards. Choosing to study this course meant I could combine two of my favourite interest. The course also allows me to learn from academics who have worked in disaster affected countries and gain an in-depth understanding of how outside issues, such as religion/gender/education etc influence those who are in disaster prone areas.

What have you enjoyed the most so far about the course?

I have enjoyed learning about each factor of a disaster (i.e. response, mitigation, preparedness and recovery) and how each one impacts those who live or work in areas that have been hit by a disaster.

What are your plans for after you graduate?

I may take an internship in Bangladesh for a year, however, graduation is still a few years away, so I’m not 100% certain on what I want to do after I graduate.

Is there anything you would like to say to anyone applying to this course?

Get involved or volunteer with as many local or global organisations as possible and update yourself on global news (you can apply this to your work i.e. class work or assignments). Also don’t be afraid to express your ideas and views, be confident.
