How has the register data influenced clinical guidelines?

The British Society for Rheumatology (BSR) oversees the writing of clinical guidelines – these guidelines offer systematic and evidence-based recommendations to support UK clinicians in management of many different topics including pregnancy and breastfeeding, biological DMARDs, and pain management, and reference data from BSRBR-RA. An example of how BSRBR-RA data has contributed to clinical guidelines can be viewed here – British Society for Rheumatology guideline on prescribing drugs in pregnancy and breastfeeding: immunomodulatory anti-rheumatic drugs and corticosteroids

What other influence has the study had?

In addition to this, the BSRBR-RA has had other influence in the clinical world:

  • Results have been incorporated in patient drug information leaflets and product labelling Charts and graphs with a magnifying glass lying on top of them.
  • Invaluable resource for safety and efficacy information for patients, clinicians, drug manufacturers and drug regulators (data has contributed to 20+ drug Risk Management Plans)
  • Data has contributed to European Medicines Agency approval of new therapeutics
