Celebrate your registers! Development: Encouraging researchers
Research Opportunities
The British Society for Rheumatology Biologics Register for Rheumatoid Arthritis (BSRBR-RA) is an observational cohort study, which has collected data on over 30,000 participants in the UK over more than two decades. This extensive dataset provides opportunities for researchers to analyse the data and answer their research questions.
Application Process
There is a set process in place to apply for a dataset from the BSR:
- Contact the research team in Manchester to discuss the request
- Read the terms and conditions, and complete the application form (found at the BSR’s website)
- Submit the application form (there are three deadlines within any year, which link to committee meetings in February, June and November where your request will be considered)
Next Steps
At their next meeting, the ‘Registers and Research’ committee reviews applications. The criteria includes:
- The quality of the science
- The experience of the candidates to undertake the work
- The relevance of the data for answering the proposed questions and the feasibility of the analysis
You will then be notified as to whether your request has been accepted. Please be aware that the length of time from request to approval and then to supply of data can be as long as six months, depending on the complexity or size of the request. Data Transfer Agreements will be put in place before the dataset is made available, and no patient identifiable data will be transferred.
