September 2018 – Exploring Somatic Sensation
The BEAM lab has been working with Loop Dance Company on an art-science project investigating audience reactions to live performance. As part of the project ‘Exploring Somatic Sensation’, the company (based in Kent) visited Manchester on 10th September. We invited a small audience of people from the local arts and science community, as well as participants from our Parkinson’s research, to attend the event at Z-arts. To explore spontaneous reactions to the movement and energy of the performance, we asked some audience members to wear accelerometers and heart rate sensors, and we also took recordings from the dancers. We are analysing the data and hope to share our findings soon.
