New LEAF SharePoint Site: University-wide resource for contacts, resources and case studies
The Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework (LEAF) has been an ongoing initiative at the University. It provides a set of standards to help laboratories embed more sustainable and efficient lab practices without compromising research quality.
Over the years, Environmental Sustainability and Social Responsibility teams across the University have developed a wide range of LEAF materials, including full criteria lists, templates, exemplars, and step-by-step guidelines. These were often shaped by the specific needs of different laboratory environments, such as dry versus wet labs, across the University’s three Faculties.
We are now pleased to launch a new University-wide LEAF SharePoint Site, which brings together all resources in one central, accessible hub. This unified space will make it easier for all lab users, regardless of Faculty, to find the support and materials they need as they work towards LEAF accreditation.
Here’s a snapshot of what you can find on the SharePoint Site:
- Step-by-step guidance to LEAF Bronze: This page is ideal for those who are just starting on their LEAF journey. It will bring you through the whole LEAF process from registering on the University College London LEAF platform, all the way to obtaining an audit.
- Resources/Knowledge hub: This section covers all the criteria for Bronze, Silver and Gold LEAF awards, separated by the 10 categories of LEAF. Each category contains tips on how to meet each criterion, as well as exemplar submissions.
- LEAF Case Studies: A collection of blogs and articles sharing success stories from LEAF-accredited labs, tips and advice from LEAF Champions, and creative solutions to sustainability challenges. Features labs in Biology, Medicine, Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science and more.
- Meet the UoM LEAF Team: A list of auditors and support contacts including Social Responsibility and Environmental Sustainability Officers across all Faculties.
We would like to add a special note of thanks to Lydia Wunderley and Josie Hendon who created the original resources section.
In addition to the LEAF SharePoint Site, we also have a UoM Sustainable Labs Teams Community, where we share updates, ask questions and collaborate with lab users across the University. You can also find a tab on the Teams site under the general channel which links directly to the SharePoint site.
