April Environmental Sustainability eco-update
Each month, the Environmental Sustainability team will be sharing the latest events, engagement opportunities and campaigns to get involved with in the faculty and beyond.
This month, we’re thinking about the theme ‘It’s In Our Nature’ – celebrating the green spaces, wildlife and biodiversity that can be found on campus and across Greater Manchester.
There are plenty of great opportunities to spot wildlife on campus this April. Join the UoM community on the iNaturalist app to record your observations throughout the month. You can also get involved with a photo competition led by the central ES team – share your best snaps on Instagram by using the hashtag #UoMSustNature and tagging @uomsust.
Honing your iNaturalist skills will come in handy towards the end of the month, when we’ll join with nature lovers across the globe to take part in the City Nature Challenge from 25-28th April. It’s a worldwide effort to record as much wildlife as possible, with everybody using the iNaturalist app.
Closer to home, the Sustainable Futures team will be hosting a free Urban Nature Walk on Wednesday 30th April at 12pm. Join the team to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature along the Ardwick Green Route – sign up via Eventbrite.
Other events and involvement opportunities in April include:
- Firs Botanical Gardens Group Tour – Friday 4th April, 10am-3pm.
- Guided Tree Trail on campus – Wednesday 9th April, 12-1pm.
- Earth Day – Tuesday 22nd April.
- Sustainable Futures seminar: Wonders of Biodiversity – Thursday 24th April, 1-2pm.
