Dr. Karolina Kluk-de Kort to Lead Faculty’s EDI Efforts as New Associate Dean

The Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Karolina Kluk-de Kort as the new Associate Dean for Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI). Karolina, who has been an integral part of the Faculty’s Social Responsibility Management Team as the SR Director for the School of Health Sciences (SHS), will take up the role in April 2025, marking a new chapter in the Faculty’s ongoing commitment to promoting diversity, inclusivity, and equality across all levels of education and research.

Karolina brings over a decade of extensive experience in the field of EDI, having worked on a range of initiatives that promote fair opportunities, support for underrepresented groups, and creating a more inclusive environment in higher education. These began with leading the Athena Swan Self-Assessment Team for the School of Psychological Sciences and expanded to leading the Athena Swan Team for the School of Health Sciences and more recently as SR Director for SHS. Her background in both academia and community engagement has equipped her with the skills to drive meaningful change within the Faculty, ensuring that all students, staff, and researchers feel valued, supported, and empowered.

Commenting on her appointment, Karolina said: “My primary motivation for taking on this role is to influence and shape the culture of equity and inclusivity at the University of Manchester and beyond – an aspect of academic, intellectual, and research culture I am extremely passionate about.”

Professor Natalie Gardiner, the recently appointed Vice Dean for Social Responsibility (and Karolina’s predecessor) expressed excitement about the appointment.

Karolina’s appointment highlights the Faculty’s ongoing commitment to creating an inclusive workplace that values diversity in all its forms.

Professor Natalie Gardiner has demonstrated outstanding leadership as Associate Dean for Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion and her dedication has greatly shaped a more inclusive and supportive community. As she transitions to her new role as Vice Dean for Social Responsibility, the Faculty looks forward to her continued impact and wishes her all the best in this next chapter.
