6R Champions go bananas and offer mindful moment with Stationery Amnesty
Answering a call from Furniture4reuse, staff ES champions Beth Taylor and Linsey Nelson organised the Stopford stationery amnesty in April and May 2025. They booked a room, requested two cages for A4 box files, ring binders and lever arch files (no longer wanted at UoM) and produced adverts encouraging everyone to donate or take for 2 months. They popped in regularly to sort out the donations and liaised with the local company Chariot to organise the collection of the caged items for redistribution via local charity Emerge, or recycling.
6R student champions, led by Amir Dehgani and Sara Shaqiri organised a campaign stall in the Stopford foyer to promote :
- Carbon literacy via the Banana game and the app Earth Hero.
- Reuse and mindfulness, offering binders and boxes to take home and encouraging 5 mins of mindful eco-craft using leftover stationery, or cutting the metallic part of suspension files to make cards for nurseries or primary schools pupils
- Circularity and sustainable consumption with the app Hazaar and our student-led shop WantNotWasteMCR.
Actions required:
- Please ask local business, organisation, nurseries, schools if they want our unwanted stationery and contact maggy.fostier@manchester.ac.uk
- Please ask around before buying any new stationery. We probably have what you need.
