As we adapt for what’s to come, who we are and what we stand for won’t change. Our motto – Knowledge, Wisdom, Humanity – continues to guide us as we chart our next chapter as a globally recognised civic university. But here’s the truth: we cannot fully live these values without robust Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) data. Why? Because values without evidence risk becoming aspirations rather than actions.
There are open data sources about diversity of students – can AI analyse them for you? Spoiler: It cannot do it all for you, but it can certainly help reveal some insights into student diversity. In this blog post, I explain how.

In this blog post, I will re-cap on the “200 years of EDI Data Workshop” I presented alongside Sami Karamalla-Gaiballa (Data Analyst Lead and EDI Partner) in our EDI Conference in June. As we celebrate 200 years of the University of Manchester, this workshop was purposed to demonstrate how data collection has changed over the past 200 years using examples of the UK Census and our own University.
