Greetings from Hong Kong Polytechnic University- PolyU!

I am pleased to inform you that the Master of Science in Disaster Management (Resilience, Response and Relief) (DMRRR) is now open for registration. The DMRRR is a joint award programme offered by the School of Nursing at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, in collaboration with the Humanitarian and Conflict Response Institute (HCRI) at the University of Manchester, UK.

We held an information session on 13th January 2018. Participants from diverse backgrounds, such as the Police Force, social welfare and health disciplines interested in disaster management, attended this session to find out how this course could help them in their field.

This Master’s programme builds on the success of our previous short courses in disaster nursing in Hong Kong, and our Master of Science in Disaster Nursing  in collaboration with Sichuan University, mainland China. We have enriched and expanded the syllabus to adopt a multidisciplinary approach with global perspectives. Our collaborator, the Humanitarian and Conflict Response Institute, is also a leading global centre for the study of humanitarianism and disaster management. HCRI’s teaching team is highly experienced in offering online courses and programmes.

The DMRRR programme will be delivered in fully online modes, with an elective subject on field-placement in sites that have been hit by disaster. This programme is suitable for international disaster workers to study for a Master’s in their own countries. The field-placement offers an option for students to network with international partners in disaster work and to provide the post-disaster service and support needed.

An induction programme for incoming students of the DMRRR is being planned to be held in Hong Kong in the first week of September 2018 (optional).  The deadline for application is set at the end of April 2018. For students interested in this programme, please apply on time. Details of the course are also available on our website: http://sn.polyu.edu.hk

You are also welcome to send this programme information to all those who may be interested. Should you have any queries, please feel free to contact our team at (852) 2766 4369 or email me directly.
