TIN-Bee: Trans Day of Visibility

A circular badge featuring concentric stripes in the colors of the transgender flag (light blue, pink, and white) and the non‑binary flag (yellow, white, purple, and black). In the center is a yellow circle outlined in purple. Around it, in purple text, are the words ‘I STAND WITH YOU’ repeated twice with small star icons separating the phrases

Trans Day of Visibility is held on the 31st of March each year and is meant to be a joyous day of celebration of trans and non-binary folks being themselves and to show that it does get better. But the past few years have been difficult for the trans and non-binary community, particularly the past year. We have seen our rights diminished, increased demonisation in the press and on social media, and access to healthcare becoming restricted all while feeling abandoned by the government. The community feels unsafe and forced into invisibility, which is the intended outcome of the anti-trans movement.

So, on Trans Day of Visibility, we are asking that you, our allies, stand up and be visible with us! Show your pride in being an ally, not just here at UoM, but also online and most importantly with your friends and family. The support from hearing people saying and meaning that “trans women are women, trans men are men and non-binary people are non-binary”, is very powerful. Most people have a trans person in their life, but they may not know due to them still questioning or being too scared to come out. Seeing your support for the community could make a world of difference for them and give them the strength they need to be their true selves.

So, on Trans Day of Visibility, we are asking that you, our allies in the university stand up and join us! We will be gathering at 12:30 on the 31-3-26 in Brunswick Park (Oxford Road end) for a photo opportunity. Bring your flags and banners and show your support for the trans and non-binary community at UoM. There will also be a free unique allies button badge available for participants of the photo!
