“In the last few weeks there was no escape from pictures showing friends and strangers from all wakes of life dumping buckets of ice-cold water on their heads. What on the surface is being marketed as a fun activity for a serious cause says in fact a lot about contemporary humanitarian sensibilities and patterns of solidarity.”

The above is taken from a new blog run by Dr Tanja Miller, Senior Lecturer in International Development at HCRI and the Institute for Development Policy and Management. Dr Miller will be will be updaing her blog monthly, with the possibility of future guest articles.

She is also the author of the recently published Legacies of Socialist Solidarity: East Germany in Mozambique, and will be speaking at a launch event for the book on 11 November 2014.
