On 8th May a delegation of health-care professionals from China and Hong Kong arrived in the UK co-hosted by Hong Kong Academy of Medicine (HKAM) and the Humanitarian Conflict and Response Institute (HCRI). The exchange tour is one of the activities under the project “Training and research development for Emergency Medical Teams with reference to the WHO Global EMTs initiative, classification and standards”.

The visit aims at providing an opportunity to increase understanding about the emergency response system including global and national Emergency Medical Teams in the UK system. The trip consolidated HCRI’s initial collaboration with HKAM which started last year with training and meetings held in Hong Kong and aims to share skills, knowledge, and resources among the emergency response department and identify mutual benefits from the collaboration.

A number of key themes were discussed during the visit to identify commonalities in approach, common challenges, and mutual benefits from potential collaboration. Over five days the Chinese delegation had the opportunity to learn specific knowledge and skills on funding mobilisation, team deployment, and logistics in the UK emergency response system. Various meetings were held with resources among the emergency response department of UK, such as the Department of Health (DH), the National Health Service England (NHS),  Public Health England (PHE), and the Department for International Development (DFID).
